“Hi My Name, is Jennie and I used to work as a teaching assistant during the day on a fairly low wage, and supplemented my income by working 2 sessions at a local youth club. On average, I was earning around £17-£18K a year, working around 40-45 hours a week.
Something had to change, so I decided Youth Work was a career I really wanted to explore, as loved working with young people. So I went ahead and booked a session with Rachel, one of Need 2 Succeeds advisors, who helped me to explore all aspects of what my career goals were and what the best course pathway to take.
I settled on the Level 2 Programme and after 11 months, I passed with flying colours, and this meant two things for me.
One – I was now nationally qualified, meaning my hourly rate went up.
Two – I was able to reduce my hours at the school and take on more sessions at my youth centre, as a Leader in Charge of a few sessions.
I have now embarked on my Level 3; and as a bonus, because I completed my Level 2, the first 4 units count towards my level 3, meaning I’m already half way through and I’ve only just started!
